It's the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar (八月十五) and today, we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節), also known as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival.
Besides admiring the mid-autumn harvest moon...
Oops, sorry folks, my picture of the full moon didn't turn out too well...
...eating pomelos...
What is Mooncake Festival without...mooncakes!
What kind of mooncakes do you like? The baked or snow-skin ones? I prefer the baked ones (without salted egg yolk please) :D...
As you may have noticed, sometimes I like to make a felt version of the food I eat. So to celebrate this special day, I sewed this felt mooncake specially for YOU. Hope you like it.
Well, looks like we've got everything ready - the moon, the pomelos & the mooncakes. Now, why don't you grab your favourite cup of tea or coffee & join me to celebrate this 中秋節?

Eeeek! You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteI love the felt mooncake! It's amazing how you turn "real" things into plush so easily :)
I can't choose between the baked and non-baked ones! I love them both equally, and I love having eggs in them :D My fave though, is the yam one (with flaky pastry). I haven't had them for ages tho! The ones sold in Auckland are so expensive - NZD 11.50 for just One mooncake :(.
And I think the picture of the full moon turned out really nice :)
Hi Lyn! Oh, I know those flaky pastry type you mentioned. Think it's Teochew style if I'm not wrong? I like flaky pastries too but just so so with yam though. Yeah, mooncakes are extremely expensive these days, even here in Singapore :(. Thanks for dropping by and good luck in your coming exams! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lyn. It took me a couple seconds to realize the latter was made out of felt : ) ... Such a neat finish !
ReplyDeleteHi Nat, nice to 'meet' you :). Glad you enjoyed the felt mooncake as much as I have enjoyed sewing it. Thank you for visiting my blog! :)
